You ever have one of those days where everything goes wrong before 9am? The alarm doesn't go off. You spill coffee on yourself. You snap at someone you love for no reason. Your patience is gone before you've even left the house.

I used to call those "bad days." Now I call them something else.

Today: Why some days feel like a battle before they've even started.

THE 2AM LIE

THE ARMOUR YOU FORGOT TO PUT ON

Let me ask you something and I want you to think about it properly.

If you knew you were walking into a war zone tomorrow morning, would you leave the house without protection? Would you stroll out the front door in a t-shirt and flip flops, hoping for the best?

Obviously not.

So why do we do it spiritually?

"Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes."

Ephesians 6:11

Notice it says "put on." That means it doesn't come automatically. You don't wake up wearing it. You have to make a conscious decision to equip yourself before the day begins. And most of us don't. We wake up, check our phones, scroll through bad news, absorb other people's stress, and then wonder why we feel spiritually defenceless by lunchtime.

The armour of God isn't a metaphor. It's equipment. And Ephesians 6 breaks it down piece by piece:

The belt of truth. Knowing what's true before the lies start. Starting your day grounded in God's word so that when the enemy whispers "you're not enough," you already know the answer.

The breastplate of righteousness. Protecting your heart. Not letting guilt, shame, or condemnation settle into your chest and stay there all day.

The shoes of peace. Walking through your day with a steadiness that doesn't come from your circumstances. Peace isn't the absence of chaos. It's the presence of God in the middle of it.

The shield of faith. The thing you hold up when the flaming arrows come. And they will come. Doubt, fear, anxiety, comparison. Faith doesn't mean you don't feel them. It means you don't let them land.

The helmet of salvation. Guarding your mind. This is the big one for most of us. Your mind is the battlefield. If the enemy can control what you think about, he can control how you feel, what you believe, and what you do.

The sword of the Spirit. God's word. The only offensive weapon in the list. Everything else is defensive. But this one? This one fights back.

Here's the thing most people miss about spiritual warfare: it's daily. It's not reserved for dramatic moments or major life crises. It's the Tuesday morning when you feel irritable for no reason. It's the Thursday night when old thoughts creep back in. It's the Sunday when you sit in church feeling nothing.

Those aren't random. Those are the moments you needed the armour and didn't have it on.

YOUR ONE THING FOR TODAY

Before you leave the house tomorrow morning (or before you open your phone, whichever comes first), take 60 seconds and pray through one piece of the armour. Just one. Start with the helmet of salvation and say "God, guard my mind today. Help me to think Your thoughts instead of the enemy's." That's it. 60 seconds. One piece. Tomorrow add another one. Build the habit slowly.

God, I've been walking into battle unprotected and wondering why I keep getting hurt. Forgive me for leaving the armour on the floor. Today I'm choosing to put it on. Guard my mind with the helmet of salvation. Protect my heart with the breastplate of righteousness. Steady my feet with the shoes of peace. Give me the shield of faith to block what the enemy throws at me. And put Your word in my mouth so I can fight back. I'm not doing this alone anymore. I'm doing this with You. Amen.
