Hey my friend welcome to the latest edition of my newsletter, thanks for being here! If this blesses you, share it with someone who needs it. They can sign up free at thelowkeychristian.com/newsletter. God bless you, now let's get into it.
I didn't send yesterday.
Life got in the way. Nothing dramatic. Just the ordinary kind of getting in the way that happens to everyone. I could have written something rushed and sent it late. I chose not to. It felt more honest to miss one than to give you something I hadn't put my heart into.
There is probably something worth noticing in the fact that this happened in the middle of a week about stillness.
This week's theme: Stillness.
Today, we rest with a Psalm.
PSALM 62
David wrote Psalm 62 while people were plotting against him.
Not a quiet season. Not a peaceful chapter of his life. He was under pressure from multiple directions, being pulled at by people who wanted something from him, and he wrote this.
"Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him."
Read it twice.
Notice what David does. Halfway through, he stops speaking to God and starts speaking to his own soul. "Yes, my soul, find rest in God."
That is the sentence I want to leave you with today.
Sometimes you have to tell your own soul to rest. It will not always come naturally. The soul left to its own devices will keep spinning, keep scanning, keep bracing. You have to speak to it, out loud if needed, and remind it where its rest actually comes from.
Not from a completed to-do list. Not from a resolved situation. Not from a week that went the way you planned. From him. Only from him.
That is the whole message of stillness week, condensed.
Rest today. Whatever your week has been. Whatever went well. Whatever got missed. Whatever surfaced when you finally sat still, and whatever you're still avoiding.
Speak to your soul today. Tell it where its rest is.
He is the rock. He is the fortress. He is not going anywhere.
YOUR ONE THING FOR TODAY
Read Psalm 62:1-2 out loud once, slowly.
Then say the second half to yourself. "Yes, my soul, find rest in God."
That is enough for today. There is nothing else to do.
Father, thank you for this week. Thank you for the honesty you have drawn out of me, and for the things you have surfaced, and for the things you are still gently waiting to surface. Today I rest. Be my rock. Be my fortress. Quiet my soul. Amen.
OVER TO YOU
What did this week's theme of stillness surface for you? One line. Hit reply. I read every one.
God bless you, my friend.
