Hey my friend welcome to the latest edition of my newsletter, thanks for being here! If this blesses you, share it with someone who needs it. They can sign up free at thelowkeychristian.com/newsletter. God bless you, now let's get into it.
This week's theme: Consistency.
This one might step on your toes. It stepped on mine when I first understood it.
GOD DOESN'T NEED YOUR PERFECT STREAK
Can we talk about something that ruins more Christians' walk with God than almost anything else?
The streak mentality.
You know what I mean. You start a Bible reading plan. Day 1, done. Day 2, done. Day 3, done. You're feeling good. You're "on track." You're finally being consistent.
Then Day 8 happens. You oversleep. You forget. You're too busy. You miss a day.
And what happens next? You don't just miss Day 8. You quit entirely. The whole plan. The whole habit. The whole thing crumbles because of one missed day. You tell yourself "I'll start again on Monday" and Monday never comes.
One missed day becomes two. Two becomes a week. A week becomes a month. And before you know it, you're back at square one carrying a backpack full of guilt that makes it even harder to come back.
This is the streak mentality. And it's a trap.
Here's the hard truth:
"The Lord's mercies are new every morning; great is His faithfulness."
New every morning. Not "new every morning unless you missed yesterday." Not "new every morning as long as you've maintained a perfect streak." Every. Morning.
God doesn't keep a tally of your missed days. He doesn't have a whiteboard in heaven tracking your Bible reading streak. He's not disappointed that you broke the chain. He's delighted that you're here today.
The enemy wants you to believe that a broken streak equals a broken relationship with God. That missing one day proves you're not serious. That quitting the plan means quitting God.
That's a lie. And it's kept more people away from God than any sin ever could.
Here's what I wish someone had told me years ago: consistency is not about never missing a day. It's about coming back after you do.
The most consistent person isn't the one with the perfect streak. It's the one who misses a day, refuses to feel guilty about it, and shows up the next morning like nothing happened. Because in God's eyes, nothing did happen. His mercies reset at midnight. Every single night.
I call this the Next Day Rule. You miss a day? Fine. Show up the next day. No guilt. No "starting over." No dramatic re-commitment. Just show up tomorrow. That's it.
The streak isn't the point. The relationship is the point. And relationships don't break because you missed a day. They break when you stop coming back.
So if you're carrying guilt right now about a broken plan, a failed routine, or a habit you abandoned weeks ago, hear this: God is not keeping score. He's keeping the door open. Walk back through it. He's been waiting for you.
YOUR ONE THING FOR TODAY
If you've fallen off a spiritual habit recently, today is your next day. Not Monday. Not "when I feel ready." Today. Open your Bible. Read one verse. Say one prayer. You're back. No guilt. No ceremony. Just back.
God, I've been punishing myself for missed days that You already forgot about. I've been treating my faith like a performance review instead of a relationship. Forgive me for believing that my consistency earns Your love, when the truth is Your love is what makes consistency possible in the first place. Your mercies are new this morning. Help me to accept that without guilt. I'm here today. That's enough. Amen.
FROM THE ARCHIVE
If guilt about inconsistency has been keeping you away from God, I made a video called This Bible Teaching Will End Your Worry. It goes deeper into what it looks like to hand your guilt to God instead of carrying it.
OVER TO YOU
Have you ever quit a spiritual habit because you missed one day? Hit reply and tell me. I guarantee you're not the only one.
God bless you, my friend.
